Camp Quinebarge

Camp Quinebarge - The Quintessential Summer Camp

In 1936, Camp Quinebarge, on the shores of Lake Kanasatka in Moultonborough, New Hampshire, was opened by Tom and Ruth Kenly with the aim of providing young boys a place where they could find friendship, have fun, and learn kindness over the summer. Ninety years later, Camp Quinebarge, now co-ed, has become known as the “quintessential summer camp” because of its numerous activities and offerings.

Under the purview of the Kenly's, children learned to sing and various camping skills. In 1962, Tom and Barbara Brunelle took over the camp, making it co-ed in 1975 and bringing the girls from Camp Winnetaska over. The Brunelle’s continued to run the camp, adding activities and staff members until the early turn of the century. Today, the camp is overseen by a new generation of former Quinebarge campers.

Every summer, children ages 6-16 enjoy horseback riding, boating, camping, swimming, arts and crafts, ceramics, woodworking, photography, hiking, and sailing, among other activities. The camp also hosts traditional events, such as Monkeytown USA, a real city that has a mayor, Olympics, and a carnival.

The quintessential summer camp has received recognition from summercamphub.com, which listed it in its Top 5 Summer Camps ranking. It is affiliated with the Lake Kanasatka Watershed Association, the American Camp Association, and the New Hampshire Camp Directors Association. In addition, Camp Quinebarge contributes to the Lakes Region Food Pantry and the Squam Lakes Natural Science Center.
